Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to Keynote at UN on First World Meditation Day
Global spiritual leader Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar will deliver the keynote address at the United Nations Headquarters on December 20, marking the inaugural World Meditation Day. This announcement follows the UN General Assembly’s unanimous resolution recognizing December 21 as an annual celebration of meditation’s transformative impact on mental health, peace, and unity.
Themed “Meditation for Global Peace and Harmony,” the event will bring together dignitaries, UN officials, and diplomats to reflect on the role of meditation in addressing modern challenges. Gurudev will also lead a global livestream meditation session on December 21, coinciding with the Winter Solstice.
The event, titled “World Meditates with Gurudev,” will be broadcasted live on YouTube, allowing people from all corners of the globe to participate in this momentous occasion.
“This recognition by the UN highlights meditation’s immense potential to calm the mind and nurture societal harmony,” said Gurudev, who has advocated meditation’s benefits for over four decades across 180 countries.
The initiative underscores meditation’s growing acceptance as a solution for rising stress and societal discord. Gurudev’s role in peacebuilding, including mediating conflicts in Sri Lanka and Colombia, further amplifies the global significance of this day.
