Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong pleads guilty to collusion
Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong pleaded guilty to foreign collusion on Wednesday, media outlets reported, his second conviction under a Beijing-imposed security law that’s transformed the financial hub.
The already-imprisoned former student leader will be sentenced later, likely extending his time in jail. Wong is serving four years and eight months for subversion and had been expected to be released as early as 2027.
The new collusion offense carries a minimum prison term of three years and a maximum penalty of life if it is deemed to be of a “grave nature.” A guilty plea often leads to a lesser sentence than if the charge was contested.
