Orban’s EU influence comes to an abrupt end as cash dries up

Former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s power network in his home country isn’t the only one being dismantled — a political operation he spent years building in Brussels is also coming undone.

During his 16 years as Hungary’s leader, Orban was a dominant figure in the European Union’s de facto capital. He cast himself as the standard-bearer for Europe’s hard-right and poured millions into organizations within the Brussels bubble that offered allies a platform and training ground.

Now, the symbols of these efforts are at risk as new Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar pulls funding and takes control.
