Sports world steps up after deadly Kumamoto earthquake
Sports organizations in Japan are expressing their support for the residents of Kumamoto Prefecture in the wake of the magnitude 7.1 earthquake that struck the region on Tuesday and had resulted in at least 34 deaths as of Thursday night.
As rescuers rush to search for survivors and care for those who have been injured or displaced, the nation’s sports community is finding ways to contribute.
“The B. League will work in collaboration with all clubs to provide as much support as possible through the sports community,” the basketball league’s commissioner, Shinji Shimada, said on Thursday.
